Shsharp Cw Sounds Like Continuous Tone
Needed to tune a linear amp
Find a clear frequency, set power/exciter to 5 watt, set MODE to RTTY, then press MOX to send pure tone. Press MOX again to stop TX.

You can connect a switch between the PTT REQ signal and Ground on the linear connector on the back of the FTdx3000.
In the menu system you then can set the tune power.
If you press that switch the Transmitter then will give your tune signal.

Jonathan...
Here's another method, a little work in setting it all up, but more convenient in the long run. This also presupposes that your 15 Pin linear jack on the rear panel is NOT being used for any other purpose
Parts List...
Small normally open pushbutton switch
Plastic project box to hold the switch
2-conductor cable to reach from your operating position to the rear panel of the Yaesu
15-pin connector to mate with the Linear Jack on the rear panel of the Yaesu
Assembly
Mount the switch in the project box and connect the cable to the switch.
Wire the other end of the cable to the 15-pin connector so that, when plugged in, the cable connects Pin 11 to any of the three ground pins.
(The goal here is that when the pushbutton is actuated, Pin 11 is connected to ground.)
In the Yaesu menu settings, look at 178 EXT AMP TUNING PWR. You need to decide how much power to send to your linear to facilitate tuning, and set Menu 178 for just that power.
Mate the 15 Pin connector to its jack.
Testing
Disconnect the linear from the Yaesu
Connect your TX antenna directly to the appropriate jack on the Yaesu.
Power up the Yaesu and set the meter to show power out.
Press the new pushbutton switch and you should see a power indication on the meter corresponding to the power set in Menu 178. Can also be used to check the SWR just by changing the meter display and momentarily pressing the button again.
If everything look OK here, then it's probably safe to operate.
Operation
Connect the linear as normally used, and when you need to tune it.... Just press the new pushbutton, and tune the amp. !!! Simple !!!
Disclaimer
As with anything you read on the internet, judge for yourself whether or not this will work for your situation. You also might want to wait for a more experienced Ham to comment on this. I don't have a linear, so am just using this to make checking the SWR a little easier. All it does is send a tone of known power down the line to the antenna. Seems like this might be all you need to tune the linear.....

Steve.....Your suggestion of grounding pin 11 of the linear plug is an excellent idea that I have used for the past 3 years with no problems. Mac WA7LAD
My 3000 is set up for CW and to be able to send CW while in SSB or any other mode. All I need to do to turn on constant carrier is to close the contacts on the key which is always at the ready.

I always just put on CW press the mox button easy.
These days using FT8 just press tune in the software.

Yep, just like Bill was saying. Just enabled menu 059 CW Auto Mode to ON and off you go. Press the key and here come the CW carrier. Let go of the key and go back to SSB mode.
Not sure what kind of the linear OP is trying to tune. He is going to need more then just "Needed to tune the linear amp".

Here is a link to download a pecker that goes through your USB port works well and free.

Alan,
Maybe I am missing something or so dense.
FTDX-3000D already have such feature built in to get CW carrier while in SSB mode, just have to enable it.
Do we really need a 3rd party software just to redundant what FTDX-3000D have already offered?
Allen seems to think this is a FLEX-3000 not FTDX-3000

No it works no problem with FTDX3000 as long as use have to connected to the computer open software up select your port and will send the carrier and works as a pecker. My name is spelt ALAN.

No like I said the first time put in CW press mox button.
I'm staring the pecker software with the group.
No a solution to what he is asking but if he has a amp maybe the software could help him as a tuning pulsar

Hello all,
On this side I set the CW internal keyer to off, use the paddle in cw mode To have a continuous tone and when the amp is tuned switch the keyer on again.

Thanks for all the help! I decided to take advantage of the 2 key input jacks (one in the front, the other in the back).
The rear one is my CW paddle the front one will be in the straight key mode with an on/off switch.
